Small experiments: a manifesto

working note manifesto

A way for people to build one-page things about music, sound and interaction, share them without any commercial pressure, and let others find them. Written on 4 October 2026, the same day as the first experiment of the month, Take the helm.

  1. One idea, one page. If it takes a paragraph to explain, split it.
  2. Rough is welcome. Ship it today, tweak it tomorrow.
  3. Nothing to sign up for. No accounts, tracking or adverts. Open it and play.
  4. Say what it does in plain English. A sentence or two. If you don’t know what to call it yet, someone else can help.
  5. Credit your collaborators and your ancestors. The people and the earlier pieces behind it.
  6. Show your workings. Leave the source readable, and a few tests on the parts that matter.
  7. Hand it to one person first. Then let everyone else find it in their own time.
  8. Keep the old versions up. Experiments grow from each other.

If you make one, there’s a small form that writes an experiment.json describing it: who made it, what it grew from, and a question for the first person you show it to. Nothing leaves your browser.
